FRAMING INFORMATION
1st Art Gallery offers the option to receive your painting ready to hang or rolled in a tube.
Currently, for safety, we're able to ship framed paintings only up to a certain size. Once the maximum size is reached, the framing option is automatically disabled.
However, if you are interested in stretching or framing a painting larger than 24x36 inches (60x90 cm), please contact one of our customer success associates or let us know in your order notes. We will send you a catalog of our large framing styles and pricing options.
Unframed rolled canvas orders will arrive rolled inside a protective tube with an extra 1.5" white canvas on all sides so you can easily frame it locally.
I Sangkammaren is a stunning oil painting by Anders Zorn, one of the foremost European painters of his time, being internationally praised for his incredible portraits and unique painting style. Zorn never quite adapted to academic conventions but still painted very realistically. He blended the modernist gestural brushstroke with a strong fidelity to anatomy and the depiction of the human body.
I Sangkammaren is a stellar example of Zorn’s unique manner and one of the many nude paintings he did in his later years. The painter made a series of nudes since the 1910s, in which the human body was the main subject.
The picture shows a woman holding a white piece of fabric. She is in one corner of the room, and on both of her sides are some green objects. The chair on the left has a golden structure, the same for the bed frame in which she lays her hands. The wall behind the woman is partially a beautiful golden color and partially a cold grey texture. The floor was painted with blueish tones and contrasts with the yellow on the objects and the woman’s white skin. As usual for Zorn, he painted the work with broad brushstrokes.
Zorn came from a humble rural background. He probably showed great interest in art practice around his childhood because he was only 15 years old when joining the Swedish Royal Academy. Despite his later technical flair, Zorn performed very poorly in the institution. He didn’t like his lessons there, and after graduating from a 5-year course, he went to Spain. Later, he relocated to London and started a surprising career as a watercolorist. In his early works, Zorn already showed his skill in working with synthetic brushwork and complex and subtle color handling.
During the end of the 1880s, the Swedish painter started to experiment with oil painting. It wouldn’t take long before he achieved recognition in the 1889 Paris World Fair. Zorn never depended too much on any art institution but had a good network of patrons, some of them being three US Presidents. In his later years, Zorn returned to Mora, the small village in which he was born. There, he was celebrated by the local people and frequently painted outside and with paying models.
