Unframed rolled canvas orders will arrive rolled inside a protective tube with an extra 1.5" white canvas on all sides so you can easily frame it locally.

The exact year this painting was produced is not precise, but it is known that it was painted between 1604 and 1606. This late piece is a result of all the years Caravaggio spent perfecting his technique while living in several places. The turbulence on his life started when he fled Milan and arrived in Rome with no resources. He had nothing to wear; no food, and provisions were scarce. At this time he was taken in by Giuseppe Cesari, and there he lived the next three years. Caravaggio was known for being quarrelsome and insurgent, a characteristic that first got him out of Milan. No more than three years later he got into a disagreement with Cesari and was thrown on the streets once again.
Caravaggio had nothing for himself, but Cardinal Francesco Maria del Monte took him in and offered him to stay in his household. Luckily, Caravaggio managed to stay there and be supported by the Cardinal while developing his unique artistic style. Also around this time, he started changing his subject matter and focusing his attention on religious pieces. Soon he would become one of the most famous painters of Italy, and then, the world.
When Madona di Loreto was produced, he already had his particular style with the accentuated tenebrism, the dramatic contrast and the developed chiaroscuro technique. The Madonna appears to the common people with Christ in her arms. The pose of the figure of Madonna showed up again on the famous statues of Madonna and Christ. She is wearing luxurious purple clothes, and Christ is wrapped in no more than a simple white piece of cloth. The peasants throw themselves at her feet in adoration. The contrast between the clothes and colors on Madonna and Christ, with the humbleness of the peasants, enhances the divinity and holiness expressed in the piece.
There are few details in the background, but they are relevant to inform the viewer that this scene is set on a doorstep of a street. The color palette is strict and punctual. Most of the piece is brown and warm, in faded natural tones. Behind the holy figures, there is a pitch black background that helps them stand out and look brighter and sacred. The two standing figures have pale, bright skin.
