FRAMING INFORMATION
1st Art Gallery offers the option to receive your painting ready to hang or rolled in a tube.
Currently, for safety, we're able to ship framed paintings only up to a certain size. Once the maximum size is reached, the framing option is automatically disabled.
However, if you are interested in stretching or framing a painting larger than 24x36 inches (60x90 cm), please contact one of our customer success associates or let us know in your order notes. We will send you a catalog of our large framing styles and pricing options.
Unframed rolled canvas orders will arrive rolled inside a protective tube with an extra 1.5" white canvas on all sides so you can easily frame it locally.

Fernando Botero begins with the act of painting itself, creating layers of distance, fiction and reality and imagining the links between political and historical imaginations. The inheritor of the Mexican style of Muralism, Botero's Adam and Eve is a painted reproduction of his much-celebrated sculptures of the same name. Emerging at an interstitial point between two World Wars, Muralism signaled both an introspective and retrospective gaze into the history of indigenous pictorial art and sculpture, existing almost in parallel to the inter-war activities of Andre Breton's Surrealism movement. Many Latin American artists consequently casted their eyes and minds back to their land's pre-Colombian history for the aesthetic tools to represent their increasingly fraught national strife. At the height of its popularity in the 1920s, Muralism was employed didactically to impart revolutionary propaganda to disparate communities uncertain of their role in the struggle. As a socio-political movement the themes centred upon the reproduction of local and global events, specifically those with potential repercussions on the Mexican Revolution. Artists were commissioned to paint in public spaces, on both the interior and exterior of a building, and frequently produced works specific to, or critical of, the place or those who commissioned it.
Fernando Botero is not known for painting the politically-charged works of many of his continental counterparts. Indeed, one of Botero's first (and possibly last) political gestures was to be expelled from a Jesuit school for an article 'Picasso and nonconformity in Art', which at the time was evidence of communist support. The most common misunderstanding of the artist's work is that, with his 'fat' figures, he paints the obese. Yet, in Botero's work everything, both animal and mineral, are oversized, suffering from a visual bloating, of an engorged nation full of its own presence. Botero's Adam and Eve aims to communicate a curious sensuality through forms. His forms display what could be described as a topographic surface; a steep incline for the eye of the viewer to climb.
