FRAMING INFORMATION
1st Art Gallery offers the option to receive your painting ready to hang or rolled in a tube.
Currently, for safety, we're able to ship framed paintings only up to a certain size. Once the maximum size is reached, the framing option is automatically disabled.
However, if you are interested in stretching or framing a painting larger than 24x36 inches (60x90 cm), please contact one of our customer success associates or let us know in your order notes. We will send you a catalog of our large framing styles and pricing options.
Unframed rolled canvas orders will arrive rolled inside a protective tube with an extra 1.5" white canvas on all sides so you can easily frame it locally.
The Virgin is an oil on canvas that was completed in 1913, and it’s rich and complex in its symbolism. This piece was created on the dominant period of the Art Nouveau movement and is a great representation of its ideals and aesthetics. It is currently part of the of the National Gallery collection in Prague, Czech Republic. The first thing to notice about this piece is the beautiful balance of contrast and colors. The background is dark and brown. The central figures are painted in a cloud-shaped bubble that bursts from the background due its vibrant colors and lightness.
The central mass of colors portrays The Virgin laying in the middle, covered in an intricate garment painted on tones of pink, lilac, and purple. The garment is decorated with flowers, swirls, and circles. It has golden, black and bright orange details.
Around the Virgin, there are other six women spread around her. They are all laying down comfortably and sensually, creating an appealing impression of movement and fluidity.
On the bottom left a lady is lying down on her side. It’s possible to see her hand stroking or holding her head and brown hair. Her body is skinny and bony, her spine, ribs, and hips create a beautiful vertical organic shape. In front of her, there are some colorful draperies scrunched in tones of green and pink. On top of her, side by side with the Virgin there is the image of a blonde lady, with bright yellow hair full of green and pink flowers. She is facing the viewer so we can observe her facial features in full. To the other side of the painting, crowning The Virgin there is a black haired lady, she is leaning her face on her elbow. She has a rougher and more exotic facial feature, and a delicate rose on her hair. Behind them, there is a fragment of the face of a brown-haired woman, her neck wrapped around a silky pink scarf.
Moving down to the right side of the painting, there is a mix of colors, flowers and possible draperies painted in bright orange, blue and green. These organic shapes lead the eye into the next lady, that has a bright ginger hair and is looking down with her curvy round body. The next girl around The Virgin is black haired. It’s possible to see her face and a lot of her body, breasts, and hips. She has some green and pink draperies over the shapes of her body.
