Creation of Adam Hands only

The legendary Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, an Italian Renaissance artist, was a complete master. Painter, poet, architect, and sculptor, he is celebrated as one of the greatest creative minds of all time. Prodigious in all types of art, he produced some of the most famous and replicated works of art until today.

Born in the city of Caprese in the spring of 1475, in the Tuscany region, he was raised in the majestic city of Florence, a city known for being an art exponent in Europe. It was overflowing with culture and where the Renaissance trinity, with Michelangelo, Leonardo Da Vinci, and Raphael, shared styles and influenced each other. With the nickname Il Divino, the florentine artist was admired by his skill to transmit the sense of awe in the viewers; a technique also named terribilità. The attempt to replicate this style resulted in Mannerism, a style of art that happened after the Renaissance.

One of the most iconic artworks of human history, Creation of Adam was made in the Sistine Chapel’s ceiling, being a part of a series of scenes depicting the Genesis. The fresco portrays God, drawn as an elderly and bearer of an amazingly long and white beard, wearing a light gown with a red and swirling cloak, with Adam, his creation, who is nude. With his right arm stretched out to reach Adam's left hand, God imbues his child with life. With the pose of both characters mirrored, Michelangelo reminds the viewers that they were created in God's image.

Surrounded by the sacred clock, twelve figures surround God. Being embraced by God's left hand, Eve is protected with care, while she gazes towards Adam. Around them, eleven angels, representing Adam and Eve's children, the ancestors of the entire human race.

This reproduction is a close up from the holy hands. Drawn with perfection, Adam's hand is made limp, while God's is determined and stronger, reflecting the son's ingenuity and weakness, waiting to receive his creator's light and strength. His gesture shows that he was not complete, the lack of the divine spark on him made him soft, in contrast with the rugged mountainside that he lies in. The cracks in the Sistine Chapel’s wall are reproduced in the painting, emphasizing the masterpiece atmosphere and being faithful to the original.

Purchasing a Gallery Wrap

If you're considering not framing your painting at all, you may opt for a Gallery Wrap.
